Children's Parliament visits George Junior Council

The Nelson Mandela Child Parliamentarians, accompanied by the Child Ambassador, Lonwabo Gade (15) from Mitchel’s Plain, Cape Town and administration officials from the Western Cape Government’s Premier’s Office, and Social Development recently visited George and the Junior City Council. The Children’s parliament is a salute to Madiba. Children have always occupied a special place in Mandela’s heart and within his first year as President of South Africa,  he launched the Nelson Mandela Children’s Fund as a sign of his commitment to the wellbeing of children. Since the inauguration of the children’s parliament in 2011, the parliament has been  held annually, to celebrate Tata Madiba’s values and commitment to the children of South Africa by giving children a platform to discuss issues that affect them, according to Nelsonmandelachildrensfund.com. The parliamentarians  visited Child and Youth Care Centres and had a full session with the Junior City Council of George.
